BACKGROUND

The Masuku family was thrilled to embark on their first holiday abroad as a family of four. They chose Cape Town, South Africa as their destination, eager to explore the vibrant city and admire its breathtaking landscapes. Maiden's Cove was the perfect spot for an afternoon at the beach and little Ananthi loved collecting sea shells and chasing seagulls while his sister, Naledi played in the shallow water sampling some of the beach sand - a beach baby indeed!

As a documentary wedding and lifestyle photographer, I am naturally drawn to capturing fleeting moments and the beauty of natural light. South Africa's picturesque landscapes provided the ideal backdrop for their first professional family photoshoot. Nicole and Michael have previously visited Cape Town and was planning on getting married at the stunning Bosjes, but then the world was turned on it's head by the pandemic and their plans was put on hold numerous times. Fast forward 3 years later, they are now married and have two beautiful kiddos to share this beautiful city with.

I made a conscious effort to capture the Masukus just as they were – genuine and full of life. Whenever I spotted an opportunity for a candid shot, I seized it. Whether it was the children playing on the beach or the parents sharing a tender moment, these spontaneous photographs truly encapsulate the essence of them as a family.

The beauty of documentary photography lies in capturing the raw and unscripted moments – the ones that often go unnoticed. It is about freezing those fleeting instances that hold the most meaning. And for the Masukus, their holiday in Cape Town provided the perfect canvas for such photographs.

Cape Town will forever hold a special place in the hearts of the Masuku family, and I am grateful to have been a part of their holiday. Being able to document their adventure and capture their joy was truly an honor.
